To Snapchat or not to SnapchatI created my Snapchat account some months ago and forgot it immediately, I do that a lot: signing up on new networks and services, even if just to reserve my user, and this was definitely the case. Followed some friends and other users, trying it occasionally to find out its dynamics, but still wasn’t sure how it might be useful to me.Meanwhile Instagram has changed, first it was no longer “instant” and no longer mobile driven, it became a massive marketing tool, a showcase that should be carefully managed and planned. And now its latest update made that even more obvious: the timeline is no longer chronological and unknown algorithms decide what appears first.Snapchat has none of those algorithms, there you don’t have schedule posts and there’s no best time to post, so it’s time to give it another try to see how it goes and it might be the perfect channel for my ongoing work, which was the initial purpose for Instagram account. Snapchat ou não Snapchat, eis a questãoEu criei a minha conta há meses sem grande interesse, é normal fazer isso: registar num novo serviço assim que aparece, nem que seja para reservar o meu utilizador, e aqui foi mesmo esse o caso. Segui alguns amigos e outras contas, ocasionalmente a tentar perceber a dinâmica da rede e de que modo podia ser-me útil.Entretanto o Instagram mudou, primeiro deixou de ser “instantâneo” e muito menos virado para dispositivos móveis, tornou-se numa enorme ferramenta de marketing, uma montra que deve ser cuidadosamente gerida e planeada. E agora a mais recente actualização tornou isso ainda mais óbvio: a timeline deixou de ser cronológica e agora são algoritmos misteriosos que decidem o que aparece primeiro.O Snapchat não tem desses algoritmos, não há posts agendados nem horas ideais para o fazer, por isso mesmo é a altura ideal para voltar a dedicar um pouco de tempo aqui e ver como corre porque, talvez seja o canal perfeito para ir partilhando os meus projectos em curso, algo que no início era o território da minha conta de Instagram. Por isso vejo-vos por lá!

We’re changing…The last two, three or even four years have been a time of huge change for me as a photographer: a shift in my style, a clearer focus on what kind of projects I want to pursue. And the similar changes, least from a friend’s perspective, has happened to my fellow mates at Light Travelers. Maybe that was from was because our age, all the learning we had or the people we knew meanwhile, probably it was all of the above. That’s why that project no longer feels closer to us as it did. Despite remaining close friends, sharing our work and projects with each other, all of us have grown to something different from what Light Travelers was in the beginning. And for that reason all of us felt it was time to refocus, shift the project’s purpose to work better for us and, above all, to adjust it to what our current visual language and identity has become.We have been working on that for some time, and hope to bring the next generation of Light Travelers soon. Estamos a mudar…Os últimos dois, três ou mesmo quatro anos foram tempos de enormes mudanças como fotógrafo: um ajuste no estilo e uma melhor definição no tipo de projectos que quero ir atrás. E uma evolução semelhante, pelo menos da perspectiva de um amigo que segue de perto, aconteceu com os meus restantes parceiros nos Light Travelers. Talvez tenha sido pela idade, pela formação que fomos tendo, pelas pessoas que fomos conhecendo entretanto, provavelmente serão todas estas combinadas.E é por isso mesmo que o projecto já não nos faz tanto sentido como fazia. Apesar de termos permanecido próximos, a partilhar o nosso trabalho e projectos entre nós todos fomos mudando para algo diferente do que os Light Travelers deveriam ter sido. E é por essa razão que achamos que é altura de repensar o projecto, reavaliar o seu propósito de modo a que nos sirva melhor e, acima de tudo, adaptá-lo à nossa linguagem e identidade actual.Temos estado a trabalhar nisso há algum tempo, e esperamos que a próxima geração dos Light Travelers veja a luz do dia muito em breve. A workshop that never happened...
I was really excited about my upcoming trip to Porto, going back to a city I love and learning a lot with a photographer I admire. But the truth is that with less than a week to go I receive a dreaded phone call: the workshop was scheduled to a future date… But I already had my train ticket, the city was waiting for me and I really wanted to go so I packed my gear and went north!

É verdade que estava ansioso com a minha ida ao Porto, voltar a uma cidade que adoro e aprender com um fotógrafo que admiro. A verdade é que a meio da semana recebo uma chamada e estava tudo sem efeito: reagendado para uma data futura… Mas o bilhete de comboio comprado, a cidade estava à minha espera e como queria mesmo ir meti-me ao caminho.

Peneda-Gerês
Para alguém que, como eu, tem passado os últimos tempos mais interessado no seu próprio país não conhecer em condições a Peneda-Gerês é uma falha grave! A altura para visitar pode não ser a melhor: os luxuriantes verdes da Primavera e Verão, os quentes vermelhos do Outono ou mesmo o manto branco do Inverno fazem esta região parecer ainda melhor. Mas eu gosto de ir aos sitios em alturas improváveis, e quem sabe se despida de muitas das suas cores não me mostra a sua verdadeira natureza.
