The seasons of the year aren’t defined by a day someone has marked in a calendar but by the cycles of nature, and that’s something that a pandemic won’t change. In this atypical year my summer was spent on and off my retreat in Central Portugal, a season that starts when I’m able to pick cherries from the trees (that were fully ripe in late May when I left Lisbon after two months of confinement) and ends when the last grapes are picked from the vineyards. Não sou o autor desta foto. É do Gonçalo Borges Dias e é a primeira do EverydayCovid, o projecto que ele e o Miguel A. Lopes criaram no início do confinamento, onde dezenas de fotógrafos começaram a documentar este período único as várias vertentes da pandemia e do estado de emergência. Pouco depois de arrancar eu, o Rui Miguel Pedrosa, o Angelo Lucas, o Gonçalo Delgado, o André Dias Nobre e o Rui Soares juntámos-nos ao Miguel e ao Gonçalo para ajudar a neste enorme esforço.Durante os três meses do confinamento e estado de emergência milhares de fotos foram tiradas, com imensas horas de reunião para selecção e edição pelo meio, para no final ficar-se com cerca de 1200 fotos de 120 autores. Desde Março que o EverydayCovid (https://www.instagram.com/everydaycovid/) tem existido virtualmente para documentar o estado de emergência durante a pandemia, desde que o Miguel A. Lopes e o Gonçalo Borges Dias tiveram esta ideia e eu, o Rui Miguel Pedrosa, o Rui Soares, o Gonçalo Delgado, o Ângelo Lucas e o André Dias Nobre nos juntámos para levar o projecto
a bom porto, com muitas e longas reuniões via Zoom entretanto.Ontem pela primeira vez passou a existir fisicamente, impresso e pendurado nas paredes, incluído na iniciativa “Diário de uma pandemia” do CC11 - Centro Cultural 11(https://www.instagram.com/cc11_associacao/), com cerca de 80 fotos impressas, para além de uma projeção de todas as submissões do projecto.A partir de hoje, e até final de Outubro, está aberto ao público e convido todos a passar por lá!Rua do Centro Cultural 111700-106 Lisboa De 8 de Setembro e 31 de Outubro, de terça a sábado entre as 15:30 e as 19:30.
…E vão estando atentos porque estão na calha outras iniciativas para trazer o projecto do universo online.
Kind of a summer update, one that’s strange to me as it is for everyone. With summer came the loosening of the pandemic restrictions here in Portugal, which turned us from home bound to home based. Despite being able to travel (and not being afraid of the pandemic) some thoughts crossed my mind: the mess and ever-changing requirements and overhead on international travel, the fact that this summer everyone will travel locally and all that comes with it. So, for this summer and at least during the “school vacations”, I decided early on that I’d stay low, make use on having a place outside Lisbon I can move away from being most of times at an apartment in the city, and working in the countryside, combining remote work with the everyday routines of a small village. One of the funny things of the pandemic, and all that came along with it, is that my walks often end up passing by the airport. The fact that I live side by side with it does help, but never happened before that…
As the “new normal” settles, some bits of the “old normal” start to make it’s way back. Things like planning something out of the blue with some of fellow Fuji shooters. That’s why instead sleeping late, last Saturday morning was spent wandering the streets of the eastern part of Lisbon.#street #lisbon #portugal
Despite having my movements less restricted than in the beginning of the pandemic, the truth is the routine hasn’t changed that much. The difference is now I’m able see an horizon that’s a bit further away from what’s in front of my window…
