Afternoon plan: photo culling, gin & tonic and Netflix

With confinement old routines were replaced with new ones, streets almost unknown to me became familiar and favorite spots kind of abandoned. Today, while running by the river at dusk, it was clear to me that was the second option.

Weekend walkabouts while in deconfinement, when revisiting some of your familiar spots seems like a good idea.

My presets now work in other softwares than Darktable! Well, kind of… Your RAW developer software must support color lookup tables.I started working on t3mujinpack presets, which are based in the Tone Curves module, using precisely the existing color lookup tables (like the film emulations on RawTherapee) as a reference and starting point, also because at the time Darktable didn’t support them at the time. Although it was meant to be a one-man project, I ended up creating it as an open-source project, just for the sake of giving back to the community, and the truth his there has been people giving an helping hand. More recently someone submitted a “pull request” that included all the presets exported back to color lookup tables. This means that the presets, that only work in Darktable, now can be used in other imaging softwares. You gotta love open-source!This opens up some possibilities, by allowing it to be used in many other imaging softwares. The caveat is the software must support color lookup tables, if possible in haldCLUT format or other than can be converted from haldCLUT (like 3D LUT). These are still under heavy development, and can’t yet be found in the stable release, but feel free to download from Github and try to apply these color look tables to your photos to get the same look. Hopefully!…     github.com/t3mujin/t…

Still making the best of these quarantine days by going through my archive. Now I’m going through some of my several trips to Porto in the last couple of years.

Quarantine days are also nice to jump into my growing archive of unprocessed photos. Here in a throwback to two years ago, to a semi-abandoned workshop in Oporto and those guard dogs monitoring our movements…

Right before it was released I was able to play around with a X100V for some hours, and I’m able to confirm everything on this article: overall it’s a neat upgrade, like having weather sealing, but that new lens really is an awesome piece of glass! Something I might consider after this pandemic thing goes away and prices go down… Either that or a Ricoh GR III.(via @dpreview)www.dpreview.com/articles/…

I’m not entirely optimistic about the environmental impacts of Covid-19: in short-term it’s unquestionable, but after the lockdown ends I worry the effect will be exactly the opposite and ecology won’t be a priority anymore. Despite that, I hope we can use this time to realize the impact we’ve been having until now and what we’re able to change in the future. www.thephoblographer.com/2020/03/3…

In quarantine times a nice thing to do is do some proper catch-up and cleaning to do, and because of that I think it’s about time to send my rarely sent and highly exclusive newsletter. If you’re not already in the list signup using the link below.http://eepurl.com/cdvLev

O Bernardo Conde foi uma das novas caras conhecidas neste Carnaval, para juntar às já muitas habituais das idas às festas de Trás-Os-Montes, e parece que gostou de lá estar 🙂www.bernardoconde.com/so/c3N3v6…

Out of nowhere Covid-19 changed everything, in a matter of days we went from looking at something that was distant to being in total lockdown (which I am right now). One first day of lockdown for many, and almost as fast as the virus rushed in, within a few hours some WhatsApp chats had turned into a collective instagram account. The goal: document the everyday life under the Covid-19 pandemic, where I’m proud to be among many talented photojournalists in this photo diary. Follow us there!! And I’ll also be posting these shots in my Instagram Stories, check the #everydaycovid Highlight. instagram.com/everydayc…

The next few weeks will be spent mostly at home, a good time to catch-up with all that’s been pending (while not yet on full lockdown I bet it won’t take long for that). One of those pending items is my Darktable presets that I hardly paid attention in the last couple of months, also because a bug on the software was preventing me to edit them. Now with that bug fixed and with more time in my hands it’s time put out a new version! #t3mujinpack #darktable t3mujinpack.joaoalmeidaphotography.com

Still the aftermath of Sean Tucker’s photowalk last Saturday, all excuses are good to wander in Lisbon and this is a really good one, but now after returning home and properly going through my memory cards.#stwalk #street #lisbon #portugal

This one almost went unnoticed: Sean Tucker, an inspiring photographer and the creator of one my favorite photography YouTube channels, was in town and setting up photowalk but the instagram algorithm kindly hid it from me. Kudos to my mate João for the heads up!Photowalks are rarely a time for great photos, but always a perfect to hang out with some fellow photographers and get new ideas, specially if someone talented like Sean is coming along. In the end end being a really nice and sunny Saturday morning, and in between all that we may get out a few nice shots out of the memory cards! #street #lisbon #Portugal #fuji_xseries #vsco

All the winter festivities in Northeast Portugal have in common warm welcome so common in this part of the country, but each have their own thing, their own vibe. Some are more fast paced than others, some don’t even have masks. At Vila Boa one of the most distinctive features has to be how things are build around bonfires: gathering hay and wood to build them, lighting them, jumping over them… #onthego #portugal #trasosmontes #vilaboa #entrudo #entrudochocalheiro #caretos #fujifilm_xseries #vsco

Back from Northern Portugal, a drive that’s getting more and more familiar to me, and from a place that I’ve been coming back in the last few years by Shrove Tuesday. Back to the masks running through the streets, back to the warmth of the open wine cellars, back to the bonfires waiting for the brave to jump over them (but more on than later…). #onthego #portugal #trasosmontes #vilaboa #entrudo #entrudochocalheiro #caretos

Still this weekend’s day spent with some of my local Fuji crew, this time picking some shots taken with my own camera while wandering Évora and Monsaraz; although not entirely “borrowed gear free”, as a big part of the day was spend test driving the XF 16-80mm f4, which turned out to be a quite a competent “allrounder” lens.#portugal #alentejo #fujifilm #fujifilmxpt #fujixfocus

One of the nice perks of hanging out with my local group of Fuji-shooters is that some times we happen to have the local reps with us, that bring some shiny gear for us to play around, just like this past weekend where we went out to our lovely Alentejo region and I got to play a bit with the new X100V. All photos are JPEGs from the camera using Classic Negative film simulation.#portugal #alentejo #fujifilm #x100v #fujifilmxpt #fujixfocus
