The last day of the year woke up sunny and warm, unlike the previous ones, and me and João were headed to the last leg of this trip: the Mirandese Plateau. The golden winter sunlight promised some lovely shots of the pastures and stone walls of that little corner of the country (not a metaphor, it’s the top right corner of Portugal), but as we took the cameras from our bags things got darker, thick clouds reappeared and the lovely light that followed us all day was no more. This trip had plenty of bad weather photos, and it was meant to be that way to the end, until the last day of the year. Not complaining, not complaining at all…This is just an update of our last day of the year, no hidden meaning year recaps or deep thoughts on what’s to come. Stay safe and have fun on whatever you’ll be putting your mind into next year. #trasosmontes #portugal
The slower days between the winter solstice festivals this year brought the rainiest, gloomiest days I’ve seen in this part of the country. Time to make some bad weather shots, and get indoors when it gets too wet… #winter #trasosmontes #portugal
#festadosrapazes #trasosmontes #portugal
Picking up an unlikely photo, of every one returning home (even the sheep) to show full the return to Ousilhão was after the pandemic. The Christmas decorations in the window is a cherry on top. It felt nice to be back!! #wintersolstice #trasosmontes #portugal
The day of World Cup 2022 Final has finally arrived, while I happened to be away from the city. With Portugal out of it there’s a kind of lack of interest, but every TV set was playing the same thing. #beirabaixa #portugal

What do you do when you have northern lights above your head, but no tripod (as if I carry tripods anywhere these days…) nor a pretty foreground to write home about? Do whacky stuff handheld, I guess…#aurora #auroraborealis #northernlights #iceland

Avoiding the 1. There’s a common traveler’s misconception that the Route 1 is the only road in the island, probably fueled by the countless “ultimate road trip” posts found in almost every travel site. But in each return I been trying avoid that road as much as possible, aiming for the less busy routes, with the obvious consequence of finding myself driving gravel much more often. Going after the slow-paced, sometimes boring, bucolic and lonely stuff that does catch my eye. #iceland

Back to the réttir. In my last Iceland trip one of my goals was to capture them, the sheep roundups at the end of the summer, but an airline left me stranded halfway and that plan partially failed. This time, and despite the main goal being hiking the Laugavegur trail, I could not ignore that September is réttir month, so I went back for them!#réttir #iceland

Fourteen years ago I took a turn with my Toyota Yaris towards Þórsmörk, quickly to find out that it wasn’t the vehicle suited to reach it. So I turned back… Every time I returned I always wanted properly reach the Icelandic highlands, specially Þórsmörk, but for many reasons things always went another way. That was until now, and what probably is the most magnificent way to reach it: walking with friends all the way from Landmanalaugar and letting it appear in front of my eyes as we passed over the last hill of the hike.#iceland #thorsmork
Hiking the 54km between Landmanalaugar and Þórsmörk, the Laugavegur trail. From the colorful hills to the lush valleys, along with snowy peaks and lunar landscapes. Between effort of the steep climbs or the moments of awe for the epic scenery upon us. Between the coziness of the shelters and the harshness of the elements. #iceland #laugavegur #laugavegurtrail

Early rise for a for a long bus ride, and the last motor vehicle trip in the the upcoming week. #iceland
Cruise ship day in the Golden Circle. Having fun in the more beaten path of Iceland, before the fun begins in the highlands!#iceland #goldencircle #thingvellir #gulfoss

In the past week I’ve sharing hand-picked photos of Holy Week in Portugal and Spain from past years, but I was also able to snap some shots also. Here’s a sneak preview, more to follow!

A very rare sight this current winter around here: a dark and wet Sunday… But I do like to shoot with ugly light! #lisbon #portugal #fujix100v #snapseed
Little yellow house… Little quiet corners you find when wandering the streets of Mouraria. #lisbon #portugal #fujix100v #snapseed
More and more it’s the simple things that draw my attention, and that was the case today while hiking the mountains near my house.#beirabaixa #portugal

Fragments of warm spring days in the countryside: a really slow, quiet warm Sunday…⠀⠀#fujix100v #beirabaixa #portugal
