On The Go

Quick picks and previews, taken with the phone or processed with the phone, usually while travelling but also random moments from everyday routine.

I often tell everyone that the more I go to masked traditions, at least in this corner of Europe, the less important the mask and the costume feels to me. It still is, a lot, don’t get me wrong, but there are so many other subtle things that it feels not fair to look only at that one. But today, as I quickly browsed through my pictures from my return to Ousilhão, one that caught my eye was one where the mask is the main character. I’d love to be more consistent, but things aren’t as linear as that 😁

Finally time to give Bhaktapur its well deserved slow place, because good things don’t like rushing out. #bhaktapur #kathmanduvalley #nepal

Panauti, a quiet, slow paced, no frenzy Nepali historic town for a change. #panauti #kathmanduvalley #nepal

Hike in the Kathmandu Valley countryside, to reach Namo Buddha, one of Nepal’s holy Buddhist places. Made me realize I still have things to do at Bodhanauth, let’s see if I can squeeze that when I returned to Kathmandu. #namobuddha #kathmanduvalley #nepal

Day 4 - Dovan to Machhapuchhre Base CampGoing up, up in the mountains, but often what’s over there isn’t a bright sunny day.#annapurna #annapurnatrek #nepal

Any city looks better by dawn, but Patan is really a place best seen under the first rays of light. Not only because the lack of tourists that haven’t arrived yet from the day tours from Kathmandu, but mostly from its slow awakening, with the daily routines coming to life, specially the visit to the temples at the beginning of the day. #patan #kathmandu #nepal

Just went for a quick night stroll around my hotel, for real!#patan #kathmandu #nepal

    Day 8 - Ghandruk to NayapoolThat’s a wrap! …On the trekking part. #annapurna #annapurnatrek #nepal

Day 8 - Chhomrong to GhandrukLet’s just ignore the steep downhill and uphill midday, and focus on the bucolic countryside of Nepal that we started and ended the day. #annapurna #annapurnatrek #nepal

Day 7 - Dovan to Chhomrong. The bliss of repeating the same stretch of track you done a few days before, but in a much more relaxed way that gives space to the small things you missed the first time. #annapurnatrek #annapurna #nepal

Day 6 - Annapurna Base Camp to Dovan.Time to leave the high peaks, with an early sunrise over the Annapurna, and move down, down, back to the forests. #annapurnatrek #annapurna #nepal

Day 5 - Machhapuchhre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp.A small climb between base camps, although any climb at this altitude can make you breed a lot faster, but the relatively short walk had plenty of mountains to show us!#annapurnatrek #annapurna #nepal

Day 3 - Chhomrong to Dovan In the shadow of Machhapuchre. The entire day was done along the sacred mountain, with its iconic fish tail peak, despite most of the times being hidden behind the thick clouds or dense forest.

Day 2 - Landruk to ChhomrongStill low in the valleys, moving between the small villages and the cable bridges that connect them.#annapurna #annapurnatrek #nepal

Day 1 - Siwai to LandrukTime to start moving the legs, and get used to what’s coming. #annapurna #annapurnatrek #nepal

Somedays all that there’s to tell is the never ending hopping between roadside restaurants, until the final destination. #Nepal

First dwell into the chaos of Kathmandu. I truly missed the frenzy of this part of the world! #Kathmandu #nepal

The last day of the year woke up sunny and warm, unlike the previous ones, and me and João were headed to the last leg of this trip: the Mirandese Plateau. The golden winter sunlight promised some lovely shots of the pastures and stone walls of that little corner of the country (not a metaphor, it’s the top right corner of Portugal), but as we took the cameras from our bags things got darker, thick clouds reappeared and the lovely light that followed us all day was no more. This trip had plenty of bad weather photos, and it was meant to be that way to the end, until the last day of the year. Not complaining, not complaining at all…This is just an update of our last day of the year, no hidden meaning year recaps or deep thoughts on what’s to come. Stay safe and have fun on whatever you’ll be putting your mind into next year. #trasosmontes #portugal

The slower days between the winter solstice festivals this year brought the rainiest, gloomiest days I’ve seen in this part of the country. Time to make some bad weather shots, and get indoors when it gets too wet… #winter #trasosmontes #portugal
